Romantic Bedroom Decorating -- Get the Look and Mood

by Charlotte Sneddon

Relax, lie back, and let your thoughts turn to romance in your bedroom ... what every woman really wants (and we are talking achievable here...!) is a gorgeously romantic bedroom. It doesn't matter if your romantic bedroom is just for yourself, or for you and your partner. What else should your bedroom be, if not romantic?

Stick around here a little while, and I will show you exactly how to get that perfect, romantic look...

To get a successful romantic bedroom, stick to white or pale, pastel colors. Classic 'romantic' colors are ideal for this look - choose from dusky pink, lilac, periwinkle blue, lemon and soft green. Keep to muted pastel shades, and avoid any bright or fresh colors. Several of these soft pastel shades can be combined together, or stick to a single color, for a simple, uncluttered feel.

Florals are a very important aspect of getting your romantic bedroom decorating scheme right. Get all feminine, flirty and floral, and get in that romantic mood. Wallpapers, curtain fabric and bedding are the ideal places to introduce big, blowsy blooms, or delicate, finely wrought flowers, butterflies and birds.

Small, delicate florals can be used extensively in your romantic bedroom decorating scheme. Large florals are best as accents, for accessories or a focal wall behind the bed.

Make a real statement out of your bed itself -- it should definitely be the focal point for any romantic bedroom decorating scheme. A dramatic bed, such as a four-poster, wooden sleigh-bed or wrought-iron bed, would suit your scheme perfectly.

A traditional or decorative style is ideal for a romantic bedroom decorating scheme. Choose dainty, decorative furniture, with plenty of pretty curves and moldings. Mirrored Venetian style furniture would also be absolutely perfect.

A dressing table really is the perfect essential for a feminine bedroom -- it is a truly, beautifully feminine thing to sit and pamper yourself at your dressing table. Add loads of girly extras -- lace, pretty vanity mirrors, make-up brushes and pots, posh glass perfume bottles and (of course!) lots of jewelry.

You should also try to include beautiful, large and decorative mirrors, pictures and prints, in your bedroom. Display gorgeous jewelry, scarves and other personal belongings, in attractive carved frames.

Get a stunning romantic style with wonderfully full and draping voile and lace panels. Use as curtains at the windows, or as drapes around a four-poster bed. You can even pin lace or voile panels up, at the head of a normal bed, for a really romantic touch.

Vases filled with old-fashioned flowers will be the perfect finishing touch -- go for old-fashioned favorites, such as roses, lilies and lavender -- which all look absolutely gorgeous, and will leave a delicate, lingering scent.

Don't forget to include some lamps, fairy lights, candles, or other mood lighting in your decorating scheme -- for that special moment when you want to turn the lights down low, and let your thoughts, well and truly, turn to romance...

When you have finished your decorating, lie back gently into that big, soft, comfortable bed, admire your hard work and let yourself relax and enjoy the moment...
