Problems with Galaxy Note 9

Are the on-screen soft keys – recent, home, and back buttons – present on the bottom of your Samsung Galaxy Note 9 screen have suddenly become less responsive? Like, do you press them many times in order to generate a response? If yes, then you aren’t alone.

There have been similar reports from other Galaxy Note 9 users as well. What makes this news worthy is that Samsung has confirmed the problem, saying a fix is being worked on.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 was seen as the ultimate evolution of the current generation - the Galaxy S10 is expected to make a larger step forward with improved camera and biometrics technology. These flaws on the Note 9, which appear to be software based, are not easily hand waved away.

As consumers look for more frequent and stable updates to their smartphone’s core apps and OS framework, it’s important that new changes can be rolled out as well as having the infrastructure to develop and test the various configuration. Google has placed a lot of emphasis on achieving the former through the new framework of Android, but this only works if manufacturers can work with the framework and allocate resources.

One of the most compelling mainstream arguments for Apple’s iPhone is the frequency of software updates. Google has picked up this challenge, but as arguably the lead manufacturer in Android, Samsung needs to follow though to raise the tide for the platform.

Huawei mocks Apple by giving free power banks to iPhone customers in lines

Huawei took it to the next level by trolling the rival in a unique way. iPhone lovers have been waiting in long queues outside the Apple store to get their hands on the newly launched iPhone, this is where Huawei came in.

Huawei representatives handed out free power banks to those people, the box of which read, “Here’s a power bank. You’ll need it. Courtesy of Huawei.” To fans waiting overnight for the iPhone XS. The tagline simply pointed out to the fact that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has better battery life than the Cupertino smartphone manufacturer’s.

Not only the free power bank giveaways, Huawei also set up a juice bar with a tagline, “Ju%ce that lasts,” followed with a hashtag of #higherintelligence. Not to mention the juice van also has a small crossed out picture of Apple where it served selection of drinks, none of which contained ‘no traces of Apple’. The van also has charging points, again hinting at a better battery life than Apple’s new phone, wrote Mirror.

Huawei is supposed to release its new Huawei Mate 20 this October 16, a phone that might the better battery life and ‘higher AI intelligence’. Huawei also recently surpassed Apple to be the second largest smartphone manufacturer, pushing Apple down to third place.

Apple seamless security update for Mac

Previously Apple has released security patches through its regular software update system which requires user approval.

The latest bugs were so severe it felt it needed to get customers protected immediately, the firm said.

"The update is seamless. It doesn't even require a restart," Apple spokesman Bill Evans told Reuters.

The Mac bugs were mentioned in security bulletins issued last week by the Department of Homeland Security and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.

The vulnerability targets a component of its OS X operating system called the network time protocol (NTP) which is used for synchronising clocks on computer systems.

The protocol is a global method of synchronising time over a network and has previously been exploited by hackers.

Microsoft has been offering automatic updates for security flaws for some time.

Apple developed technology for automatically pushing out security updates two years ago but has never previously used it.

The firm said that it did not know of any cases where hackers had exploited the bug.

Hackers take credit for Christmas Playstation, Xbox crash

Microsoft's Xbox Live was "up and running" on Friday while Sony Corp's PlayStation remained offline for a second day after a hacker group claimed responsibility for attacking the two Internet gaming services.
Thousands of people on Christmas Day reported problems with both gaming systems, and Microsoft and Sony said they were scrambling to fix the problem. "Some users were unable to sign in to Xbox Live. Our teams worked to resolve the issue," Microsoft told CNBC on Friday.
The networks, which allow users of the popular consoles to play the video games with a wider online community, first crashed on Wednesday evening and the problems persisted into Friday morning, enraging many users — but especially those powering-up new machines from Santa Claus.
A hacker group called "Lizard Squad" claimed responsibility, saying on Twitter that it toppled both networks with so-called distributed denial of service attacks. The tactic involves overwhelming Sony and Microsoft's servers with unexpected — and bogus — user traffic. "Jingle bells jingle bells xbox got ran," the group wrote on Twitter Thursday, adding a similar line about Sony. "oh my fun it is to troll of you morons ... hey!"
Xbox didn't specifically address the hacking claims Friday. A tweet from the official Playstation support account said engineers were still working hard to resolve the problems and thanked users for their patience. Playstation is owned by Sony, the same company that released "The Interview" on Thursday. Xbox is owned by Microsoft, one of the companies which agreed the stream the film despite threats of a 9/11-style attack by the original hackers. There were no immediate indications the incidents were related.

How to Lock Down Your iPhone or iPad For Chidren

Has your child been in the middle of a game, only to touch the home button then get back to the home screen and suddenly all your apps are bouncing and ready to be deleted? Guided access is a great fix for that and can be accessed through the general settings.

Guided Access
Guided Access allows you to lock your device to a single app. For example, you could lock your device to only run a specific educational app or game and then hand it to your kid. They’d only be able to use that specific app.
When they’re done, you can unlock the device with a PIN you set, allowing you to use it normally.

How to:

Go to Settings on your iPhone or iPAD and navigate to General > Accessibility > Guided Access. From here, you can ensure guided access is enabled and set a passcode

Once that is on go back to the Accessibility screen by tapping Accessibility at the top-left corner of the screen.
Make sure Guided Access is selected for Triple-click the home Button.

Now that guided access is enabled.  open the app you want to lock the device to — for example, whatever educational app or game you want your kid to use. Quickly press the Home button three times and the Guided Access screen will appear. From here, you can further lock down the app. For example, you could disable touch events completely, disable touch in certain areas of the app, disable motion, or disable hardware buttons.

You don’t have to configure any of these settings, however. To start a Guided Access session, just tap the Start option at the top-right corner of the screen.

If you try to tap the Home button to leave the app, you’ll see a “Guided Access is enabled” message at the top of the screen. Press the Home button three times again and you’ll see a PIN prompt. Enter the PIN you provided earlier to leave Guided Access mode.

Now whenever you want to enable Guided Access, just open the app you want to lock the device to and “triple-click” the Home button.

I hope you can get as much use out of this feature as i have!

Walmart's with Cheap Lumia smartphones on Walmart!!

Windows Phone isn't doing too well against iOS and Android, we all know that, but Microsoft is obviously working on a plan to push Windows Phone into more consumers' hands.

This plan, according to AllThingsD, is to sell the super-cheap Nokia Lumia 521 in huge numbers at Walmart. Selling them in large numbers will require a cheap price, so how does $150 off contract sound? Considering the iPhone and Galaxy S4 both sell for around $200 or so, on a two-year contract, the Lumia 521 at $150 outright would be quite a steal.

The Lumia 521 features a 4-inch 800x480-pixel display, dual-core 1GHz processor and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
